A Movie and a Reminder

Hello my friends and happy Monday to you all. I know that Mondays are not most peoples favorite day of the week but let me point out some plus sides for you today. 1) You woke up breathing; you are alive and not dead. You are not looking at the grass from the roots up. YAY, to that! 2) If you have a job to go to, be thankful for it. It may be a Monday but there are people all over the world who would fight for your job. 3) If you aren’t enslaved in the sex industry, you are truly blessed! Just think, you didn't wake up today with a pimp demanding you make him money. So my friends be happy and smile because you only have today until 12am and you should make the most of your time. Because then it's over. You'll never get today back, so make the most of it!

This week I had the privilege to hang out with a good friend of mine! We went to Starbucks where I, hopefully, converted her to be a “sticky noter.” (if you would like to know how you can become a sticky noter as well check out our post "Let's Explain Our Mission") After a few hours of catching up we decided to run some errands, you know because girls just wanna have fun, and then finally decided to rent a redbox movie and watch it at my place. The movie of choice was "Abducted." The reason this movie was picked was because it was about sex trafficking. Which is all I obviously think about these days!

The movie was pretty good. Not a favorite, but still good. It sat right between too cheesy and too dull. The perfect combination of a "pretty good" movie. But let me just stop there, THIS IS NOT A MOVIE REVIEW. But if you feel compelled to go out and rent/buy it after you read this, please, by all means, do so.

Now, a cliff note on the movie (and it won't spoil anything too important). In the movie there are two Russian men who are posing as model scouts. In all honesty, these two men are feeding off of a woman's desire to be beautiful. Just like a normal requiter would in the real world. What better way to catch girls off guard then to make them believe you want them to become models? I mean, we all know most guys think models are hot and desirable. Which makes most girls want to look like that in order to get guys. Plus, when some Russian men promise you that you'll travel overseas for photo shoots. I mean, common! I'm SOLD! It's a smart plan really. To be honest, without using wisdom and being educated, I'd probably fall for it too. And I am sure that many of you might as well. These girls probably felt GORGEOUS after these, so called, "model scouts" confronted them with such an offer.

The weird thing, and what should have thrown up major red flags for these girls, was the fact that these guys were keeping the girls in an abandoned hospital. SCARY! We all know in scary movies, hospital's are BAD! And what can we learn from all those scary movies we watch late at night...STAY OUT YA'LL!! But really. These girls were obviously insecure, seeking attention, and they were some what naive. They allowed their emotions to control them; which as girls, this happens more often then we would like to admit. One HUGELY affective way to avoid being run by your emotions is to have KNOWLEDGE and WISDOM. Keeping your family and friends up to date with what is going on in your life, isn't always a bad thing. It can help let off steam and hopefully they can give you some good insight as well.

The guys in this movie were Russian, but girls in the U.S and other places around the world aren't just being trafficked to and from Russia, it's happening EVERYWHERE! No exaggeration. Sex Trafficking is taking place in American, Europe, Africa, Asia, Canada, Australia, and South America. There is not one country that has not been effected by sex trafficking in some way or another. No matter where you live there will be victims of sexual exploitation. And this is what we want to stop. Unless you are aware of the issue and choose to be wise about how you use the knowledge you've been given on the subject, there will never be a change. So, share it, live it, and use it. Sex trafficking is something that IS preventable and knowledge is where prevention starts.

Thank you for taking the time to read this,

Nicole and Janice
